Yesterday was Media Day at the Deyata Kirula, the national development exhibition. On the directive of Mass Media and Information Ministry, all media organizations, which set up stalls at the Media Zone in the exhibition premises had special events throughout the day. The main function of Media Day was held in the afternoon under the patronage of Mass Media and Information Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, Telecommunication and Information Technology Minister and Deyata Kirula exhibition committee chairman Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, and Mass Media and Information Ministry Secretary Charitha Herath.
Mass Media and Information Ministry sources said that 23 print and electronic media institutions had set up stalls at the Media Zone, which attracted many visitors. All 23 media organisations conducted various awareness programmes and events throughout the Media Day yesterday to educate the public the process and the role of a media institute. The visitors received an overall picture about the latest systems and technology used in the world today.
Lake House also participated in the Media Day conducting awareness and knowledge sharing programmes throughout the day. Its eye catching stall swas an instant draw. The Lake House stall provides knowledge and information while showcasing the history of both Lake House and the print media industry. Visitors can get an overall picture about the process of a print media institution.
Besides, each visitor is offered a copy of the historic first page of the first Dinamina Newspaper printed on December 17, 1909. In addition, a copy of the first page of the first Silumina Newspaper, printed on March 30, 1930 is also issued free.
