The Bandaraduwa school in Ampara that was renovated by the Ministry of Mass Media and Information under the Deyata Kirula programme has been vested in the students.
The Bandaraduwa school in Ampara that faced terrorist threats was developed by the Ministry of Media under the patronage of Minsister Keheliya Rambukwella at the expenditure of 8 million rupees. All institutions under the Ministry including the ITN provided financial assistance towards the project. A building and a protective fence was built round the school while the image house was renovated. The dancing room, old buildings and furniture were repaired.
The students were offered uniforms and school equipment. The teachers were also provided a set of clothes. The Assistant Secretary of the Ministry K.T. Jayaratne presented a souvenir to Minister Keheliya Rambukwella. Secretary to the Ministry Charitha Herath, Secretary to the Education Ministry Gotabhaya Jayaratne Presidential spokesman and Chairman of the Rupavahini Corporation Mohan Samaranayake also participated in the occasion.
Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said that the best is allocated for the nation’s children. The legacy has to be carried forward. He said that the best gift to be given to children is education. He said that a leader who understands the mentality of children and the atmosphere is essential as it forms the foundation.
Secretary to the Ministry Charitha Herath said that earlier the construction of school buildings or an image house for worship or donating school equipment to children was not considered as the duty of the Ministry. This remote school with few facilities was selected for development under the guidance of the Minister.
