Ministry of Mass Media and Information has organized a variety of programmes to coincide with the Deyata Kirula Exhibition. Strengthening the Government policy on equality in education to all parts of the island. Infrastructure facilities of the Bandaradura vidyalaya is developed and this worthy cause for the children in the province.
The foundation stone was laid on Saturday 05th January this year under the blessings of Hon. Dr. Keheliya Rambukwella, Minister of Mass Media and Information and the closer monitoring of Dr. Charitha Herath, Secretary to the Ministry to construct a new building for Bandaraduva Vidyalaya, Ampara. Which is a rural school with scarce resources.
This village came into being with the descendants of persons who fled from Mullegama, Rathmalgahaella, and Helliyadda in 1818 as a result of Uva Wellassa the village covers the land from Samangala to Mandana Heemessange Ella via Miyamaduwa Plain.
The livelihood of the people of this village ranges from chena cultivation, fisheries, brick industry to cattle farming.
Eventhrough Bandaraduva vidyalaya has been destroyed by the Great Floods in 1957, it was reopened by the villagers with the assistance of two teachers and 50 – 60 students and with the increase of students it was converted into a Government approved school.
31 villagers have lost their lives from terrorist activities in 1991 and even during the said period Bandaraduva Vidyalaya has been in continuous operation amidst various difficulties. Since then this school has not received any development project and the development of resources in this school under the leadership of the Ministry of Mass Media and Information to coincide with the Deyata Kirula would be of great assistance for the students of Bandaraduwa Vidyalaya, Ampara.
With the aim of further encouraging the students and teachers, it is expected to provide the following as well.
– a uniform
– socks and shoes
– a school bag
– a pencil box
– a water bottle
– a set of exercise books
– Sports equipment
– and dresses for teachers
Arrangements have also being made to,
– Construct a fully-equipped 80-20 ft multipurpose building.
– Construct the fence around the school.
– Reconstruction of the shrine room.
– completion of the dancing room being constructed.
– Repairing the old buildings and colour-washing
– painting the desks and chairs of the school
Along with these modifications to the school, the Ministry of Mass Media and Information expects that the students of Bandaraduwa Vidyalaya in Ampara would be able to achieve their educational goals with the development in Ampara district being built with the “Rising East” (Negenahira Navodaya) .
