Extensive investigations are launched into the shooting of Sunday Leader journalist Faraz Shauketaly.
Secretary to the Media Ministry Charitha Herath visited him at the hospital. Expressing his views the Media Secretary said:
He said that the measures are being taken to take legal action against those who are connected to such acts on the instructions of the president and the IGP.The shooting took place at the residence of Faraz Shauketaly at Hotel Road in Mount Lavinia around 2.10am today. After providing emergency treatment at the Kalubowila hospital, he was transferred to the National Hospital. On hearing the incident the President instructed the IGP to conduct extensive investigations into the incident. Police media spokesman SSP Prishantha Jayakody said that investigations are launched from several directions.
He said that investigations were launched last night itself. On the instructions of the President and the IGP a special Police tae was sent to the area today. He said that operations will be launched to arrest the suspects.
Journalist Shautketaly is admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital. Director of the National Hospital Dr. Anil Jasinghe said that his condition is not serious.
He said that several specialist doctors are treating him . He has sustained injuries on his neck and he is conscious.
