The need for the enforcement of a media ethics network for all mass media institutions has been underscored. This was emphasized at a discussions held under the patronage of Media Secretary Charitha Herath and attended by heads of News Divisions of all media institutions.
Further addressing the meeting organized at the Media Ministry this morning, the Media Secretary said that they were mulling over the introduction of a common media ethics network for all media establishment in the future. He announced that it was planned to be crafted with the consensus of everyone.
The Media Secretary asserted that there would be a breach if moral ethic limits are not properly taken into account. News plays a prominent role within the prevailing business and political aims. He was not referring to any institution remaining within these limits or the others going beyond them.
Mr. Herath asserted that it is mandatory to prepare a broad consensus among them. There is a difference between ethics and law. The Media Secretary said he was not proposing it as a law but underscored the need to remain within this limit.
