
Mr. Charitha Herath, Secretary to the Ministry of Mass Media and Information says that the field of teledrama, which is been viewed by over 80 million viewers has become an unavoidable reality in the television media and the social values and personality created in the society earlier by stage dramas or novel are build up at present by tele-creators. He further added that the characters personalities created by novel such as “Gamperaliya” and “Golu Hadawatha” are built up today through teledrama characters.
He expressed these views by addressing the one day workshop on “Teledrama and Policy Planning” organized by the Department of Government Information on 9th January, 2013.
As Social behaviour, customs, social relation as well as cultural values and bond between social institutions have become subject matter for the tele- creators, teledrama has become equipment in determining social organization. He further emphasized that as teledrama has become a decisive factor in creation of the foundation for social thinking, tele-creatins should be designed with proper understanding of social responsibilities.
However, the Secretary pointed out that the present society is not in a positive attitude towards teledrama and it has become a social responsibility to bring the field of teledrama to an effective and social friendly format at the time when meaningless creation which influence the existence of the social institutions. He added that the need has arisen to generate creations which develop the language and knowledge of the child generation of this country and secure social, cultural and political justice within the viewers and that it is the responsibility of the creation to produce a recognized creation which has identified the social responsibilities.
He further stated that the Ministry of Mass Media and Information represent as a facilitator, regulator and the disseminator of knowledge in the field of Media and the formulation of policies required for the creations, which lead to social progress, is made easy through such proficient dialogues and more such dialogues are needed.
